Job Title: Plumbing & Piping Estimator
Job Summary
The Estimator is responsible for managing the full project estimating and bidding process for mechanical, plumbing, and piping systems.
This role involves preparing accurate cost estimates, analyzing project requirements, and supporting project teams throughout pre-construction and execution phases.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Bidding

Manage the complete estimating and bidding lifecycle.

Analyze blueprints, specifications, and bid documents to prepare accurate cost estimates.

Perform quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications.

Estimate labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.

Develop bid strategies and support decision-making on project pursuits.

Assist Project Managers with change orders and cost evaluations.
Coordination & Collaboration

Work closely with Project Managers and engineering teams on design-build projects.

Support sales and project teams with estimating insights.

Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and walkthroughs.
Vendor & Subcontractor Management

Identify, evaluate, and coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers.

Ensure multiple competitive bids are obtained and analyzed.

Build and maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
Pre-Construction Responsibilities

Participate in estimating handoff meetings.

Assist in preparing submittals and project documentation.

Ensure teams are working with the latest drawings.
Job-in-Progress Responsibilities

Review job cost reports with Project Managers to identify variances.

Support ongoing cost analysis and identify potential overruns or savings.
Post-Project Responsibilities
-
Analyze completed projects (estimated vs actual costs, labor, materials, etc.).

Review unsuccessful bids to identify gaps and improvement areas.
Requirements
-
2–5 years of estimating or related construction experience.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

Strong understanding of construction processes.

Knowledge of cost estimating, bidding, and proposal preparation.

Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., AutoBid) is a plus.

Proficiency in tools such as Excel, Word, and PDF markup software.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
-
Excellent communication and multitasking abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with design-build projects.
