Job Summary
The Chair of the PhD Nursing Program is responsible for providing academic leadership, managing daily operations, and driving the strategic development of the doctoral nursing program. This role includes oversight of faculty, curriculum, student advising, program evaluation, and accreditation compliance. The Chair plays a key role in ensuring academic excellence, faculty mentorship, and student success.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Doctoral Committee Service (50%)
Teach doctoral-level nursing courses (6–12 credits annually) in hybrid/online formats
Develop and update course content to meet academic standards
Evaluate student performance using diverse assessment methods
Serve as Chair on dissertation committees and as a member when required
Guide and mentor PhD students through coursework and dissertation phases
Academic Advising & Student Success (30%)
Advise and support doctoral students in academic planning and progression
Conduct orientation sessions and regular advising meetings
Monitor student performance and support at-risk students
Maintain strong student retention and completion rates
Participate in recruitment and enrollment activities
Manage student-related academic program components and support services
Faculty Supervision & Program Operations (10%)
Support recruitment, training, and supervision of faculty and academic advisors
Oversee course delivery and ensure quality standards
Use student feedback for continuous program improvement
Ensure effective academic advising practices and system utilization
Scholarship & Professional Engagement (10%)
Maintain active involvement in research, scholarship, and publications
Participate in academic conferences and professional organizations
Contribute to institutional committees and academic governance

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
PhD in Nursing from an accredited institution
Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (or eligibility)
Proven experience in teaching at the graduate/doctoral level (including online/hybrid formats)
Strong record of research, scholarship, and professional contributions
Experience mentoring graduate or doctoral students
Proficiency in learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace) and standard digital tools
Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills
Commitment to inclusive education and academic excellence
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in academic leadership or program administration
Experience working with diverse or non-traditional student populations
