Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Director of Intellectual Property (IP) Operations to lead and oversee all aspects of IP operations, including docketing, Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) filings, foreign filings, records management, and process optimization.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving operational excellence, managing high-performing teams, implementing technology-driven solutions, and ensuring compliance with domestic and international intellectual property requirements. This leadership role will work closely with legal professionals, business leaders, and cross-functional departments to support strategic objectives and enhance operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
IP Operations Leadership

Lead and manage all IP Operations functions, including docketing, PCT filings, foreign filings, and records management

Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and best practices to improve operational efficiency and service quality

Establish performance standards and ensure accountability across all IP Operations teams
Docketing & Records Management
- Oversee maintenance and management of
domestic and international IP docketing systems

Ensure timely and accurate entry, monitoring, verification, and tracking of critical deadlines

Monitor IP records and ensure data integrity, compliance, and
accessibility
Patent & Foreign Filing Management
- Direct and oversee Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) filings, national phase filings, and
foreign patent prosecution activities

Coordinate with international associates and external service providers to ensure timely and compliant filings

Monitor filing deadlines and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions
Process Improvement & Technology

Evaluate and implement technology solutions to improve operational workflows

Support the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation tools to enhance productivity and efficiency

Identify opportunities for process optimization and
standardization
Team Leadership & Development

Lead, mentor, and develop managers and operational staff

Facilitate cross-training initiatives to improve operational flexibility and knowledge sharing

Manage team performance, staffing needs, and professional development
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with legal teams, executive leadership, accounting, human resources, and information technology departments

Support communication and workflow coordination between legal professionals and operational teams

Manage vendor relationships and external service providers
Reporting & Data Analysis
- Oversee IP operational reporting and
analytics

Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics

Generate reports related to IP filings, transactions, workload management, and operational performance
Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with domestic and international IP regulations and filing requirements

Maintain confidentiality and
data security standards
- Support business continuity planning and operational readiness during emergencies or disruptions
Required Qualifications
Education:
Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of Intellectual Property Operations experience (required)
Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of intellectual property prosecution processes, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights (required)
Leadership:
Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in a related discipline

Specialized training or certification in Intellectual Property Management
