Job Summary

The Chair of the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Program is responsible for providing academic leadership and managing the overall operations of the graduate nursing program. This includes oversight of faculty, curriculum development, student advising, program evaluation, and accreditation compliance. The role focuses on ensuring student success, faculty development, and continuous program improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Advising & Student Success (40%)

Advise and support up to 30 graduate nursing students

Guide students through admission, course progression, and program completion

Conduct orientation sessions and regular advising meetings

Monitor student performance and support at-risk students

Ensure timely communication with students

Support student certification success and program completion rates

Program Leadership & Institutional Contribution (30%)

Contribute to overall academic program success and continuous improvement

Participate in recruitment, enrollment, and retention activities

Support accreditation and program evaluation processes

Engage in institutional service and committee participation

Teaching Responsibilities (10%)

Teach graduate-level nursing courses (MSN/FNP or doctoral level)

Develop and update course materials in line with academic standards

Use diverse teaching and assessment strategies

Maintain high teaching effectiveness and student satisfaction

Faculty Supervision & Operations (10%)

Support recruitment, training, and evaluation of faculty and academic advisors

Ensure quality and consistency in course delivery

Review student feedback and implement improvements

Oversee academic advising practices and systems

Scholarship & Professional Engagement (10%)

Maintain active involvement in research and scholarly activities

Participate in conferences, publications, and professional organizations

Contribute to enhancing the program's academic reputation

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) specialization

Current licensure as a Family Nurse Practitioner (or eligibility)

Proven experience in teaching graduate-level nursing courses

Strong record of academic scholarship and professional engagement

Experience mentoring graduate students

Proficiency in learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace) and digital tools

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

Terminal degree in Nursing (e.g., PhD or DNP)

Experience in academic leadership or program administration

Experience working with diverse or non-traditional student populations
