Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Welding Engineer – Automation to lead and optimize robotic welding operations in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
This role is responsible for the complete automation lifecycle, including fixture design, offline programming, robotic cell optimization, process validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in robotic welding systems, automation integration, fixture design, welding processes, and manufacturing optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Automation & Robotic Welding
-
Own the complete lifecycle of robotic welding automation projects from concept through production launch and optimization

Develop, program, troubleshoot, and optimize
robotic welding applications
- Create and maintain offline robot programs to improve deployment efficiency
Fixture Design & Process Development
-
Design and improve welding fixtures to ensure repeatability, accessibility, and distortion control

Develop flexible fixturing solutions to support high-mix, low-volume production environments
System Integration & Controls
-
Support automation system integration, including I/O configuration, interlocks, and troubleshooting

Collaborate with controls and maintenance teams to resolve automation issues
Manufacturing Optimization
- Improve cycle times, uptime, throughput, and
overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)
- Identify and implement
continuous improvement opportunities
Standards & Best Practices
- Develop standards for robotic programming, fixture design, validation, and
production launch
- Establish best practices for automation deployment and maintenance
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with engineering, production, quality, and maintenance teams

Lead problem-solving initiatives related to quality, productivity, and automation performance
Required Qualifications
Education
Experience
-
Minimum 5 years of experience in automation and robotic welding environments (required)

Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing operations (required)
Technical Skills

Robotic welding systems programming and optimization
-
Offline Programming (OLP)
-
Fixture design and manufacturing process development
-
GD&T interpretation and blueprint reading
-
MIG welding processes and welding symbols
-
Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and troubleshooting
-
Manufacturing process optimization
Preferred Qualifications

FANUC or equivalent robotic programming certifications

PLC troubleshooting and controls experience

AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Welding Engineer certification

Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies

Experience with material handling, press brake automation, or paint automation systems
